So…I’m hanging out at Spago’s having a watercress sandwich and my usual Pelligrino. (Gotta look good for those red carpets ya know.) All is good except Ryan Gosling is eating lunch with that snotty Perez Hilton at the next table. I like Ryan but Perez said I was horribly miscast next to TC in JM. Luke asks me what I’m reading and I tell him I’m looking over the script for the sequel to the movie I won the Golden Globe for a while ago. Luke says, “Oh yeah, you were a twisted Florence Nightingale in that one.” Then snotty Perez Hilton says, “Hey, if you need tips method acting, I have a cousin who is in the health care industry. She told me they named a disease after you!” Then he just starts laughing right in my face. To play along I asked him what the disease was about. And he said, “I don’t know. It causes some condition that makes for Nashville’s shortest marriages on record.” Then he just laughed in my face again.

I HATE that Perez Hilton! I have an Oscar for pete’s sake!

So…I’m walking home from the comic book store where I scored an amazing copy of Green Lantern #238. It’s really cloudy and gloomy out and raining like cats and dogs. How did I know? Because I stepped in a poodle. But I digress. All of a sudden, I hear what sounds like a sonic boom and am blinded by hot white light that knocks me 20 feet from where I was walking. An intense pain and burning sensation grows in the middle of my back in the same spot as last time. As I fade into unconsciousness I think to myself, “Oh no…not again. I guess the old saying is wrong.”

So…I’m jamming at my favorite gonzo rocker’s concert. They say he’s a dinosaur geezer but he can still bring it with both guitar and flaming arrows. I’m wearing my fringe vest and am in a free-for-all stranglehold of gyrating bodies screaming along with the lyrics at the top of our lungs. Everything is going fine but then my arm starts itching like crazy. When I look down at my skin, there are long lines of swollen, red and oozing marks. Thinking back on what could have caused these itching burning cuts, I remember “Fluff Face” got mad at me when I tried to take her string of yarn away.

So…I was singing the debut of my new rap “Funky Code Medina.” There was a record company in the audience so I was rappin’ my heart out and jumping all over the stage!

The crowd was roaring and moving to the beat! Things were going great….. Then suddenly, my bling flew off my neck and wrapped around my new cool sweat pants at the ankle. I stumbled and turned trying to catch my balance. Gaining momentum, I finally tumbled at enormous speed off the stage. My entire 250 pounds hit the cement on my left knee. The pain was excruciating. I looked down to see my knee cap protruding out of my skin and split in half from top to bottom. The sight was making the crowd sick. (But the code for “nausea” is not what the Mad Coder needs).

So…I procrastinated by waiting until the last minute to buy my holiday ham. The parking lot was full and the grocery store was total mayhem. I grabbed a wobbly-wheeled shopping cart and sprinted at warp speed toward the meat section while playing bumper carts through aisles jammed with frantic moms, mumbling dads, and whiny kids. As I finally dodged my way to the proper bin, with a gasp of relief I realized there was only one lovely, foil wrapped, honey glazed ham left. Out of the corner of my eye I spied a little old lady making for the same pork goodness. Super-hero-like, I leapt from my feet and flung myself into the freezer grasping the ham inches before her own hand closed down on what we both needed/had to have in order to ensure the holiday meal’s success. As I smoothly recovered from my dive and proudly dropped the ham into my cart, the little old lady growled, “That’s my ham.” I apologized and said something kind and understanding along the lines of, “Snooze you lose.” At this point, the little old lady snarled and grabbed some manner of frozen poultry, swinging it at me in a very threatening manner.

The next thing I knew, a loud thwang awoke me in the ER as the doctor dropped what looked like a frozen giblet into the surgical tray. My head is throbbing, the stitches come out in two weeks, and I never did get that ham. Apparently, the family took its cue from “A Christmas Story” and went out for Chinese.

What will my doctor code? (Hint: more than one code is required for this answer).

So…I’m walking on a farm road the other day. Out of nowhere, I hear a whoosh of air and what smells like leftover slop as a sudden impact flattens me to the ground. When I look up, all I see running away is the twitching of a curly tail. The farmer walks up to me and says to no one or nothing in particular, “That’ll do.”
